"Unfound Rumors"

I have not had an "Unfound Rumors" post in a while but my email box had a very curious rumor I would like to share with you.

The Cubs and Angels are in negotiations on a trade that would send disgruntled Jason Marquis or young lefty Sean Marshall to the Halos for an outfielder or couple of prospects. The Angels have lost Lackey for a month and lost Escobar for a undetermined amount of time. The Angels either want a veteran presence in the rotation or a young cheap player with ML experience to fill out there rotation until Lackey and Escobar come back. The Cubs like outfielder Reggie Willits who would fill the fourth outfield position for the Cubs. It is rumored that Willits may be untouchable but the Angels are desperate for pitching so they untouchable status may be lifted.

This sounds like a legitimate rumor although I cannot find anywhere on the net where I can confirm it. I will keep you updated if I hear anything. Remember this is an " Unfound Rumor" and 9 times out of 10 nothing comes of it but I thought it was worth sharing.

I think you may have something here. Lackey and Escobar had 39 wins, 420 innings between them. They could use some pitching. And they start the season 10 games in a row no off days. They need the 5 starters.

Yeah i don't know if its true, but i heard that exact same thing on 670 the score this morning on Hit an Run, it was just an idea... i don't think it is a rumor

Looking at the cubs schedule they won't need the fifth starter till april 19th. So Hill still has some time to improve if he's moved to the 5 spot. Is Cedeno's injury holding up the Roberts trade?

Since they need starters mainly in beginning of the season, I think Marquis would be a great fit. They can use him while he looks like a 15 game winner and then get rid of him at the trade deadline to another desperate team. Another OF that Cubs should look at is Todd Linden. He is not a veteran either but seems to be out of luck with the Giants and he has gotten better with more at-bats in the big league. He is also not hurting himself with an impressive spring this year. As a switch hitter who can play across the OF, he could really help!

just an idea here off topic. Say we do trade for roberts for whatever package. Just roberts not payton or any others. Then Dero becomes expandable and giants are looking for a third basemen. maybe send derosa over there. They got a few pieces the cubs might like, such as dave roberts a outfielder who covers all three positions or maybe Kline a lefty reliver. just an idea
