Soriano signing making other free agents want to sign with the cubs!!

The Cubs have reported that they have offered a 3 year 45 million dollar contract to Drew which sources close to Scott Boras says he will accept.

A side note Barry Zito contacted Jim Hendry Personally to let him know that he would enjoy pitching at Wrigley field and for the Chicago Cubs.

How big is today!!! I have been emailed by a "source" that says he has inside information that, this tidbit is true!

Not only that but there will be a press conferance tonight or the latest tommarrow announcing the signing of both Drew and Soriano... He also states the only way Zito will be here is if he takes less than his orginal 7 year 100 mill contract.. It is stated that now Murton/Jones will be moved to Indians for Jake Westbrook in a package deal. Check this lineup.

Soriano cf
Izzy ss
dlee 1st
aram 3b
drew rf
barrett c
murton/jones lf
derosa 2b

Big Z
Westbrook
hill
miller/cotts
fa signing

Where are you getting this information? Or are you just making this up for good reading?

If the cubs get rid of Murton I will be pissed! I believe this kid has a bright future...I really hope he stays.

I dont really think that we will be getting Drew. The pockets might be deep, but not that deep.Im sure that offer was before the Soriano signing. They also desperately need at least two rotation pitchers.

Who the heck would bat Izturis 2b with that lineup?

nice site. zito just called hendry cause he just saw what we gave soriano- see ya zito, you're not worth that much :) . JD Drew i heard we offered a contract, but it didnt get much publicity or covered that well. we'll see...

Cubfan.... please expand on those sources.

What "message board" exactly that had a source "close to Scott Boras" did you get this information from?

I have a feeling that those reports are just rumors, nothing more. Soriano will be a Cub, but I just can't see Zito and Drew coming to the north side.

However, ESPN 1000's Bruce Levine said today that the Cubs are interested in Schmidt. He said that they might try to sign him to a 3yr deal. Levine is usually quite accurate, and I think we can all agree that Hendry has a lot left to do. I have a feeling that he will make one more splash by signing a FA SP or trading for one (Westbrook has been mentioned)...

Also, the prospective line-up in the article is terribly constructed (something like dusty would do)...

First of all, Izturis hasn't the OBP or the patience at the plate to hit 2nd. He is the prototypical slick-fielding Middle Infielder (a very good one at that) with NO bat. He belongs in the 8-spot. I can see Murton as a fantastic #2 hitter. He has a very good eye and great plate dicipline (which should be even better with Gerald Perry as Hitting Coach). Even DeRosa might fit in the 2-hole, but NOT Izzy...

Here is an example of what I think the Cubs' line-up will look like barring the acquisition of another position player:

Soriano-CF
Murton-LF
Lee-1B
Ramirez-3B
Jones-RF
Barrett-C
DeRosa-2B
Izturis-SS

That is a pretty damn good line-up. Ryan Theriot might even fit in there in DeRosa is a bust. The-Riot was quite good hitting behind Pierre last year, so he might even be another option to hit behind Soriano.

Even Barrett, who hits the ball to rightfield often, can hit 2nd.

That should answer all your questions on his stats, if not foxsports.com has a good stats page

i would figure he would bat 2nd between aramis and lee, or maybe 5th after aramis

if he is signed you would need to trade one of your outfielders either murton or jones, for pitching of course
