Cubs like Khalil Greene?

The Cubs join the Angels, O's, and Cards in the pursuit of Greene. Greene recently turned down an extension with the Pads because he wants to either play on the east coast or in a hitter friendly park ( Wrigley). The Pads are looking to trade him for a young corner outfielder. The Padres really like Matt Murton and Reggie Willits. I can see the Cubs trying to land him instead of Roberts. Greene provides power and a good glove and would be an upgrade over Theriot. The Cubs could also flip Greene to the O's to get Roberts but I don't see that happening. The Pads would likely want Cedeno or Eric Patterson along with a pitching prospect and Murton. I also wouldn't mind a three way deal with the Angels and somehow us getting Figgins but that is kind of far fetched.

In other notes the Cubs have avoided arbitration with Weurtz signing him to a one year deal worth 860,000 bucks.

Is he healthy? Seems fragile.

I much rather have Greene than roberts. He should be cheaper to acquire. This way we can keep dero in the lineup which is better for the team then have roberts and theriot at short. i sawy try and get him

Pads and Cards just got a deal done with Jim Edmonds and i heard the Cards weren't willing to move young talent from their crouded outfield but i wouldn't be suprised if they can make it work with the Cubs as wrigley seems ideel for him. Rick

Greene had a good year 2007 but 2006 had 15 hr's, 2005 15 hr's, 2004 15 hr's. A career 254 ba. and he strikes out alot. I would let Cedano play short. Also Byrd had a good year 2007 but away from texas he batted 259 and day games 236. And in 2006 he batted only 223 and in 2005 he batted 264. I say let Pie and Fuld play center. Nick I
