Cubs could be intrested in Finley, Erstad, or Church??

Thanks to mlb4u.com

Darin Erstad, CF--Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Posted: 04:58 PM - Jan 3, 07
The Rockies are set to sign either him or John Mabry. Rockies, White Sox, Orioles and D-Rays interested. His first choice remains to return to the Angels. The Cubs could also use him, but they are pursuing Ryan Church and Steve Finley instead. ...This rumor was last updated on 04:58 PM - Jan 3, 07. The source of this rumor was
St. Petersburg Times.

I cant say im suprised because of Jim saying he wants a stop gap because of Pie but Finley and Erstad are not better than Jones, Church you may say is better on D, but with the bat Jones beats them all. I say let Jones, Theriot, and Pie fight over it in spring training.

Here a link to there stats-

Erstad- http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3473

Finley- http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=2150

Church- http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=6078

Cubs invite some players to spring training

http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/284610

The Cubs signed RHP Jason Anderson, RHP Ben Howard, LHP Les Walrond, RHP John Webb and C Koyie Hill to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.

Just thought i would pass the news along to the really devoted cubs fan.

Newhan not a Cub

Im sure this will break all your hearts but it appears David Newhan will pick the Mets over the cubs according to http://www.mlb-rumors.blogspot.com/. I cant tell you how glad I am to not have him"compete" for a spot on the 25 man roster. It also provides a better chance that Floyd becomes a cubbie. Which of course I am all for.

GO CUBS!

Cubs come to terms with Cotts

Thanks to Rotoworld.com-

Cubs agreed to terms with LHP Neal Cotts on a one-year, $825,000 contract. Cotts was arbitration eligible for the first time. The Cubs are still planning to stretch out the left-hander in spring training, but he's no higher than seventh on the starting pitching depth chart, making it likely that he'll return to the pen.

Not big news but its cubbie news.

Cubs make strong push for Newhan

Thanks to www.mlb-rumors.blogspot.com/-

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Mets and Cubs have made strong offers to Dave Newhan. Newhan, who was not tendered by the Orioles, has a great chance to make both clubs, but will probably have to accept a minor league deal. If he were to join the Cubs, he would could make the roster if they decide to send Ronny Cedeno to Triple A Iowa to play regularly. Although, he is almost guaranteed a spot on the Mets roster, assuming the Mets look to trading for a pitcher. Newhan, who batted .252 with 4 HR and 18 RBI will most likely decide after the New Year.

This is curious to me. But of course if he is just signed to a minor league deal with the chance to make it to the big leagues I really dont have a problem with it. He is a lefty bat, but not a stolen base threat or a HR threat. Im not sure why we do have intrest unless we get him for really cheap and he doesnt have a guareented spot on the ML team. He looked good in 04 but anything before or after wasent a big deal. If they start him in center over Pie or Jones I will be pissed!

Reviewing Floyd?

This according to http://www.mlb-rumors.blogspot.com/

The Cubs are reviewing Cliff Floyd's medical records one last time before finalizing a one year, incentive base contract. A deal is most likely to be finalized this weekend. Floyd batted .244 with 11 HR and 44 RBI. He will most likely platoon with Matt Murton in left field.

This is really nothing new, they have been reviewing his medical record for weeks now. I hope he signs soon, he would be a great player off the bench and could be good in case the Murton project doesnt work out. He is a great gamble, he could put up .285 with 20-25 hr next year if heathy. A 1 year with 6 million dollar contract and 3 million being incentives would be reasonable. Either way I like the idea of Floyd being a cub.

Rumors....Rumors...and more Rumors...

Its now time for another addition for Rumors.. Rumors.. and more Rumors.. I guess rumors never rest so here are my unfound rumors i have been emailed to me or posted on my site that i would like to share with you.( note: These are unfound rumors, which means there are no links or anything supporting them.. but hey this is a rumor site and i like to put up the emails my devoted readers send to me; and sometimes there even right!) Here they are-

1. Juan Rivera gets his leg broken in winter ball, there is alot of rumors going around that he wont be ready for the season, so the angels are looking for a corner outfielder to put up like numbers with Rivera... Can anyone say Jones??? This has been emailed to me 3 times in 2 days and is getting alot of hype on the message boards.. One said that Figgins for Jones( I would do that in a heartbeat!!) The other said Figgins for Jones and Guzman( which i would also do in a heartbeat!!) These trades make alot of sense on both sides, the Angels need a power hitting outfielder and the cubs have a displeased Dusty supporter who wants out of town.. Not to mention he only makes like 4 mill next year.. The cubs in turn need a defensive minded Cf who is a lefty, has speed and can hit in the #2 hole and Figgins fits that perfectly.. but why would the Angels give up Figgins, well they cant use him in left field. he doesnt have enough power and he cant play center because they just paid Matthews 10 mil a year to play there.. so this trade would make perfect sense.. now does it to the GMs??? who knows..

2. This one im putting in here for pure enjoyment.. some one said Griffey for Prior and Marshall.. Thats to funny!!! trade one DL for another DL and a young pitcher???? i dont think so!!!

3. Finally the last one.. This came out of nowhere.. This unknown person says Pie, Marmol, and Moore fo Raul Ibanez.. he is a great player and i wouldnt mind this trade if they took out Pie and inserted Jones... check out his stats-http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5665... i have always loved Ibanez.. good defender.. and a power lefty bat... If Jim pulled that off it would be a unreal

That does it for this addition of my unfound rumors.. i hoped you enjoyed it!!!!!!!

Cubs getting Floyd???

This has been rumored for weeks and it seems they are very close on landing there platoon for Murton.. Sources said late Tues that they are on the verg of landing him. I like the signing, he is a backup plan if Murton doesnt work out, he is an outfielder who can play both corners as well as first if need be.. If heathy can hit 25hr.. He is a great gamble!!!
