Gorzelanny Gets A Good Return and More....

Tom Gorzelanny was traded to the Washington Nationals for 3 prospects today. The Cubs received Micheal Burgess, A.J. Morris, and Graham Hicks. Tom Gorzelanny got a better return than I (along with many others) thought. Burgess is a 22 year old lefty outfielder with a cannon arm. He hit .265 with a .357 OBP and 18 home runs in 122 games in between A and AA. Morris is a 24 year old right-handed pitcher who went 5-3 with a 3.77 ERA in 27 games (16 starts) in Rookie and A ball. Hicks is not to impressive posting a 5.04 in A ball last season although he is only 21.

A.J. Morris is the 18th best prospect and Burgess is the 19th best prospect in the Nationals organization. Hicks did not show up in the top 20 best prospects.

This looks like a great trade for the Cubs because their pitching was such as surplus since the acquire Garza.

In Other News.....

- The Cubs agreed on term with Geovany Soto to avoid arbitration. He signed a one year deal worth 3 million.

- Want the latest on the Cubs Convention? No one does it better than CCO.com and CubbieCrib.

- The Cubs are still looking for takers on Fukudome.

Until Next Time...

Just because we had a bunch of starters doesn't mean we had a surplus of starting pitching. Gorz was cheap, a lefty, and ate up innings. I extremely disagree with this trade. I also spend a year and a half in the nationals organization making it to their High-A Potomac team before being released. I did not play or see Morris. But Burgess and Hicks are by far not MLB talent, I don't care what their rankings are. Terrible Move.
