More on Z and Other Chatter.....

- MLBTR has the latest on the Cubs/Big Z saga. Zambrano will go to the Restricted Listed but the Cubs will pay him while he is on the list. According to reports the Cubs want to trade Zambrano and at least half his contract. In addition to that I am hearing more on the "retirement rumor" that states if Big Z does decide to in fact retire the Cubs and Z would likely settle on a buyout of the contract rather than him forfeit 45 million.

- The Mets will target Ted Lilly if they fail to acquire Cliff Lee. That is the case for a lot of teams in contention for a playoff spot. I am still sticking to a Ted Lilly for Ike Davis straight up trade.

Until Next Time....

you'd have to include Nady or Lee 'cause that would leave the mets without a quality 1B

No way Zambrano retires and leaves all that money on the table.

What if Z is found mentally unstable. Do the cubs still have to pay him? If he flunks a drug test, they do not have to pay him till he comes up clean. And since Z wants to be with his family why would't he take a buy out to leave. Lets say the cubs cut his salary in half and let him go. They would still save 20 million plus.

Cubs are officially sellers. If cincy or st louis play .500 ball the cubs would have to go 53-30 the rest of the year. The problem is not many cub players are in demand by other teams. Lilly, Silva
and Fontenot are the only ones.
Players that are cheap but no one seems to want Wells, Theriot, or Baker. Players that can't turn it around Lee, Nady, or ZAMBRANO.
Sure would be nice to bring up Diamond, Snyder, Spencer, Barney and both Jackson's. Lilly will bring at least 2 top ten prospects if the going rate is the same as last year. Happy 4th everyone.
