Cubs Could Look Different...

With the talk back and fourth between mainstream media and Lou getting angry and more bitter, along with Steve Stone basically calling out Lou and Jimbo, and the Cubs being 7.5 games out of first; the writing is starting to show on the wall. Lets take a look at some recent rumors and news-

- Koyie Hill had some choice words for the Cubs and how do you not agree with that?

- Kendry Morales is out for the rest of the year. It is still being rumored that they are looking at Derrek Lee, Mike Lowell, and Lance Berkman. If I were Lee I would welcome a trade there and do anything I could to end up in Cali.

- One thing that is being rumored is the Angels are looking to upgrade 3rd base over getting a replacement for Morales. One name that has been thrown around is Aramis Ramirez. The Angels almost signed Ramirez the last time he was a free agent so you know interest is still there regardless of this numbers on the field.

- The Mets are going to battle the Yankees for Cliff Lee's services for the 2nd half of the season. But the Mets may be more inclined to go for Ted Lilly or Tom Gorzelanny because the price tag will be lower and Gorzelanny is cheap and under team control for the next couple years. He is a thought how about Gorzelanny and Derrek Lee for Ike Davis?

- There is a rumor going around the message boards and radio that the Cubs have until the middle of July to get turned around and back in the race. It just so happens that is right around the All-Star break and two weeks before the trade deadline. You have to believe if this team is sold off before the deadline and struggling like it is now Lou and Hendry will likely be gone which will be a blessing to Cub fans.

Get ready Cub fans because in the next month or two this team could look a lot different one way or another.

You don't know what you're talking about. Lee has said he doesn't want to be traded. The Angels interest in Aramis in 2006 doesn't mean they would be interested NOW. Good lord.

Oh, and Ike Davis for Ted Lilly and Derrek Lee? What the hell are you smoking?

well if the mets are still in the race for the playoffs at the break... then Davis for Lee & Lilly would help both clubs. Gives the cubs a young 1st baseman under control for a few years, and sheds salary which the Mets have shown they are not afriad to increase, so although I dont think it will happen, its not a far fetched scenario by any menas.

Why would the Mets give up their future (Ike Davis) for a mediocre pitcher and three months of Derek Lee?

Here's my 2 cents worth.
Hendry is staying, he is signed through 2012. When you're the GM of the cubs you have to over pay free agents, cause they don't want to come here. Everyone was getting long term contracts when Z and SORI
signed.
Sometimes firing a manager wakes up a team Lou maybe gone. His contract is up this year anyway.
Lee, Lilly, Ramirez, Fukudome, Zambrano and Samardzija all have no trade contracts. This makes trading a little harder.
One of these 3 infielders could be traded Theriot, Fontenot, or Baker
and Barney brought up.
Nady or Tracy could be traded and Snyder comes up.
Hill could go and Castillo brought up.
Sarting pitchers that do not have a no trade contract Dempster, Silva and Wells. I still like Dempster but if we could trade him thats about 40 million saved. Silva looks like hes back and Seattle is picking up 9 million of his contract so he's owed 8 million
this year and 6.5 million next year. That makes him cheap. Wells makes less than a 1/2 million so he is real cheap but he stinks so you would have to throw him in with Theriot or someone to make it work.
If Lee or Lilly use their no trade protection then the cubs could offer them salary arbitration at the end of the year and still get some draft picks.
Now if we could trade some pitchers I would like to see Gorzelanny back in there and any one of these. Diamond, Jackson or Cashner.
