More on Roberts.

Thanks to MLBTR-

Brian Roberts Rumors
Here's the latest on the Brian Roberts situation. From Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times:

Cubs want the switch-hitting leadoff hitter, are ready to deal from a pretty deep hand of prospects and would like to have Roberts in camp by the time the full squad reports next week. But nobody at Fitch Park seems to be counting on that, given the teeth-pulling, teeth-gnashing nature of talks with the glacial O's.

And then there's Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun:

Will Roberts be the next former Oriole? Perhaps, but maybe not right away. President of baseball operations Andy MacPhail has engaged in trade talks about the All-Star second baseman for months, so it won't be surprising if he pulls something off soon. But there's really no rush.

To sum it up: there's nothing new, nothing imminent. Wittenmyer also dismisses a rumor that the Cubs are after Joe Nathan. The Cubs have the pieces they need to field a strong team, if they use them properly.

Levine was on ESPN 1000 Weds. He's at the point, like everyone else not associated with the O's, doesnt know which way the Roberts thing is going to go.

If I remember correctly, also thinks the Byrd deal wont go down. That leaves Crisp if the Cubs still want a righty CF to platoon with Pie, but he doesnt see it considering Crisp still has 2 years left and assuming we still hold on to Pie and Colvin, doesnt see Cubs wanting to crowd CF for that long and also doesnt see Crisp being happy with a platoon situation.

ESPN 1000 guys said after the segment that Levine probably didnt want to say it, but the guys got the impression from the segment that Marquis is as good as gone, just need to find a taker.

Hold the prospects!

MLB Rumors is reporting that Sabathia has cut off talks for a new deal until after the season.

We gotta root hard against the Indians and hope they are out of contention by the deadline or even Sept... and then see if we can swing a Santana like deal.

The Cubs NEED a power arm #2 guy. Nothing against Lilly and Hill, I love them, but to win a WS we are going to go up against rotations deeper than ours.
