According to the Baltimore Sun, the Mets and Cubs have made strong offers to Dave Newhan. Newhan, who was not tendered by the Orioles, has a great chance to make both clubs, but will probably have to accept a minor league deal. If he were to join the Cubs, he would could make the roster if they decide to send Ronny Cedeno to Triple A Iowa to play regularly. Although, he is almost guaranteed a spot on the Mets roster, assuming the Mets look to trading for a pitcher. Newhan, who batted .252 with 4 HR and 18 RBI will most likely decide after the New Year.
This is curious to me. But of course if he is just signed to a minor league deal with the chance to make it to the big leagues I really dont have a problem with it. He is a lefty bat, but not a stolen base threat or a HR threat. Im not sure why we do have intrest unless we get him for really cheap and he doesnt have a guareented spot on the ML team. He looked good in 04 but anything before or after wasent a big deal. If they start him in center over Pie or Jones I will be pissed!

I hope that we don't make this move. Just as you mentioned, he isn't a stolen base threat nor will he hit the ball out of the ballpark. The man has a career batting average around .256, and a career OBP barely over 3. His stats make him look like another Neifi, without the good glove. What could he possibly bring to the table that would make him a valuable addition to the team?
The only reason I say get him is to have him play for AAA iowa. One good thing that could come out of this is that he may take over Pie CF position at Iowa, becuase Pie might be our Cf next year. But thats just a assumtion.
Someone on the PSD Forum said that this site posted news about the Cubs getting Renteria... is this true? or is he stupid?

That rumor is totally false.. There is no links and none of my sources have heard any thing on it.. I wish it was tho, renteria is a good player and better hitter than izzy. This trade is absolutly untrue
