Zell, Go to Hell!!!

Zell said Tuesday he won't hesitate to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field -- even if baseball purists don't like the idea. Hey Cub fans, what would you think of Viagra Field, Pizza Hut Park, Nextel Stadium, or The Target Park at Wrigley Field??? All these could be possibilities if Sam Zell does what he wants to do and that is sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field to the highest bidder.

While I understand money is an issue and runs the world, but how many of us would change the name of the Mount Rushmore to "Verizon Point" or change the name of the Grand Canyon to "Jeep Rock." What Zell is doing is basically that to Wrigley Field. Wrigley Field is the 2nd oldest ballpark in the majors and is a historic landmark. This beautiful place has been the home of Babes' "called shot", green ivy, bleacher bums, and the best fans in baseball. All Zell sees is dollar signs and forgets where he comes from. By selling the naming rights he is signing his way quickly out of Chicago. If he thinks he can do this without repercussions then he is mistaken, he must forget how much this field's name means to devoted baseball fans. If the name of Wrigley gets changed, Hell will have a new ruler because only an evil person( Sam Zell) would scar this sacred place with a bogus corporate name like the one's listed above.

Although Wrigley Field will always be Wrigley Field to me changing the name does not make it right. The only way the sell of the naming rights works for me is if the company or people that buy the rights keep it as Wrigley Field( which is unlikely). Is your financial gain worth wrecking almost 100 years of history of it being Wrigley Field??? I don't think so!!!!!

Sam if you go through with this you are truly an evil man and it is embarrassing to be the same species as you. You basically pissing on Cubs fans, spitting on Harry Caray grave, and sh*tting on baseball. I hope your happy with becoming the most hated man in Chicago, because your well on your way!

Calling Wrigley Field anything but Wrigley Field would be an unbelievable disaster!

If he lets Cuban buy the team he can call it PREPERATION H and i wouldn't care. Sorry names don't mean much to me. Cause by habit everyone would still call it wrigley.

I would say Cub nation at its heart is as passionate as soccer fans.

I hope Zell realizes he will become a marked man in Chicago if he goes through with this. Death threats, vandalism of his property, among other things wouldnt surprise me.

The key for Cub fans is to publicly voice our displeasure with a name change. The goal should be to scare off any potential corporations interested.

For example if it was rumored Target was close to a deal... start boycotting and picketing at Targets.

Maybe its just wishful thinking on my part... but you can bet I will do all of the above.

WOW! Man I really think your going way overboard on this. It is just a name. A Corporations name.

He bought the team so he can do what he wants. It's a great business decision to divide the sale of the team & the stadium. Considering Mr. Zell has done more for the city of Chicago than your beloved Cubs, I think it's narrow minded of you to call him "evil" simply because he's making a great business decision. I guess this is what happens when a former minority owner of the White Sox takes owns your beloved Cubs. Selling the naming rights of the stadium will fund many of the upgrades necessary to keep the stadium running. This could mean that the structure itself stands longer, which makes a simple name change sound like a worthwhile sacrifice. Cheers!

Zell owns the team and the stadium. He can do whatever he wants. It is narrow minded of you to shame a man who has done more for the city of Chicago than your beloved Cubs; a world outside of sports does exist. It's his prerogative to split the sale of the team and the stadium and it's a GREAT business decision. Furthermore, it will create an opportunity to update/upgrade the stadium so that the structure itself stands for a longer time. A simple name change is a small price to pay to keep a 100 year old building up to modern standards. There are certainly other alternatives. Would you rather they build a stadium w/ a new name in Aurora & altogether knock down Wrigley? Or do you want the chance to take your kids to the same stadium where you enjoyed watching games at as a kid, and tell them stories about how it was once called Wrigley Field? Zell's decision to sell the team & the stadium reflect his business-savvy mindset. But keep in mind the friendly confines will still be @ the corner of Clark & Addison. Just a thought. Cheers.

Will the seating change? Is a team other than the Cubs going to move there? Much ado about nothing. No matter what it is called, it will be the same place, at least until they upgrade the stands, which they are in dire need of.
