UPDATE-10:45pm- According to David Kaplan on Comcast Sportsnet Chicago, the Cubs are on the verge of signing Milton Bradley to a multi-year deal. A deal is expected to be announced next week after the new year.
UPDATE-7:25pm- The Marquis/Vizcaino deal is done and will be announced next 3 to 4 days.
Bruce was just on ESPN 1000 and has some good Cubs updates. Lets have a look-
- He said the Cubs ownership situation should be resolved "sometime in January."
- The Marquis trade will be completed the next 3-4 days and the Cubs will save 5.5 million or so.
- They are planning to use that money to sign Bradley, which he said the deal is done and will happen by next week.
- He also said there is about 2 to 3 teams that are talking to the Cubs about DeRosa and he could be traded within the next 3-5 days. WOW! That is a surprising comment from Levine!
- The prospects gained from trading DeRosa would be added to a deal for Peavy.
- Hendry is moving money around so these deals will happen.
- Vizcaino maybe traded before he puts on a Cubs uniform.
I would hate to lose DeRosa but if it nets us Bradley and Peavy, I am all for it!

what are the goals? They seem they are running all over. I thought the team was the returning champs of the central, seems like they don't remember this there were some changes to b e made but getting rid of DeRo where are they headed? There is something to say for some knowing your teammates and who you can depend on. I will be willing to listen I seem lost now........
I can't believe this! Bruce Levine not only says that he thinks the Cubs will make all these moves but he says they will all happen in the next week! Where did you see/hear this from Bruce! If all this happens that's great, but I don't think it will. The only part that seems like it will happen is the Marquis trade.
Thanks
I have heard this all on ESPN 1000 according to Bruce Levine.
Anything on Brian Roberts? We need Soriano out of the leadoff.
WOW! all those moves would be awesome! I don't mind Derosa leaving because what a lot of people forgot is a lot of times derosa didnt do anything with runners in scoring position, he would hit into a doubleplay for example. but dont get me wrong derosa did do a lot and probably be missed. If adding bradley for DeRo is the case...im all for it!
The Cubs new owners Ricketts,Utay or Klaff as a group don't have the cash Cuba has. That said the Cubs have a payroll less than we would like to see as fans. So to get Bradley we had to trade Marquis. And trading Derosa is a smart move.
Derosa hit 21 HR'S last year he has averaged 6 per year before that. And since the Cubs want more lefty's in the line up, Bradley in RF Fontenot at 2nd there is no room for Derosa. I think if Lee didn't have a no trade clause in his contract he would be gone, and Hoffpauir would be at 1st. We will have to trade more payroll to get Peavy. Just my opinion. I liked Derosa too.
I hate the trade.Marquis was a useful #5 and Vizcaino with his 5.25 ERA seems like a pretty useless member of the bullpen.
Brewerhater, I have not heard anything lately on the Roberts front but rumors are really starting to heat up now so you might hear somwething.
As far as not liking the Marquis trade allan. You have to consider it is mostly a salary dump so we can aquire Peavy and or Bradley. Plus I do not think Vizcaino will be with the Cubs very long.
Cubsfan...here is hoping you're right.
cubs just added aaron miles fo 2 yrs
dero traded to indians for minor leagurs wow
If Milton Bradley and Jake Peavy becomes Cubs, the Central Division is almost a lock.
At first, I wasn't real high on the Bradley signing (which hasn't occurred yet). However, Milton Bradley is one of the best all around hitters in the game (supported by his OPS Ranking). Only Pujols, Chipper, and Manny had a higher OPS %. Add Peavy to the staff (which has occurred yet, either), there aren't too many series you are going to lose with that staff.
I will miss DeRosa though.
I hear the Giants are agressively pursuing Manny with the thought of getting rid of one of the following: Winn, Roberts or Rowand. (MLB traderumors) I see them getting rid of Winn, they didn't sign him to an extension recently, maybe signaling he is done in San Fran. Why not go after him? Switch hitter, lead off, decent defensively. Hit 300/363 last year and 25 stolen bases. Far more durable than Milton Bradley and cheaper. We might not have to give away the farm to get him and maybe just maybe, we might have enough to still get Peavy. Lineup is then Winn, Theriot, Lee, Ramierez, Soriano, Fontenot, Soto, Fuku/Johnson. Not bad at all.
Cubs have freed up space to aquire Milton Bradley and they have also obtained prospects to aquire Jake Peavy. I do not see Vaziano in a Cubs uniform past next week with his high era.
